How many chakras do you have

Chakras have only recently become more well-known, with the growth in popularity of yoga and New Age philosophies in general. They are a complex and ancient energy system that originated in India. They were first mentioned in the Vedas, ancient sacred texts of spiritual knowledge dating from to BC. Some say there are different chakras, but there are seven main chakras that run along your spine.

These are the chakras that most of us are referring to when we talk about them. Each of these seven main chakras has a corresponding number, name, color, specific area of the spine from the sacrum to the crown of the head, and health focus.

A blocked root chakra can manifest as physical issues like arthritis, constipation, and bladder or colon problems, or emotionally through feeling insecure about finances or our basic needs and well-being. Issues with this chakra can be seen via problems with the associated organs, like urinary tract infections, lower back pain, and impotency.

Emotionally, this chakra is connected to our feelings of self-worth, and even more specifically, our self-worth around pleasure, sexuality, and creativity. Blockages in the third chakra are often experienced through digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion.

Blocks in our heart chakra can manifest in our physical health through heart problems, asthma, and weight issues. People with heart chakra blocks often put others first, to their own detriment. When out of alignment, it can make us feel lonely, insecure, and isolated. As one would expect, this chakra is connected to our ability to communicate verbally. Voice and throat problems as well as any problems with everything surrounding that area, such as the teeth, gums, and mouth, can indicate a blockage.

At a physical level, most nadis can be identified with the nervous system and blood vessels but they go beyond this plane to the subtle body. Obviously, we direct our attention to the most notable ones, and out of those we can distinguish 3 main nadis: Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna. They are the main energy channels and focusing on them will positively influence the other nadis as well.

There are 7 chakras in the human body and 5 chakras outside the human body. The 7 chakras are located in specific anatomical areas. The first of the 7 chakras, the Root Chakra or Muladhara is located at the base of the spine, in the inguinal area.

Its role is to ground us and when in balance it provides a feeling of security and energy while helping us move closer to our life goals. This chakra helps you transform sexual energy into creative potential. The sacral chakra or Svadhishthana is located 1 inch under the naval and governs the flow of fluids, sexual energy as well as your freedom of expression.

The third chakra is Solar Plexus or Manipura. Located half-way between your Heart and Sacral chakras, it helps you control emotions and offers you the wisdom to find harmony and confidence on the path to a thriving true-self. The Heart Chakra, also called Anahata , is located in the center of our chest and as the name states its role is to guide your heart at an emotional level. Anahata is there to better your relationships and self-trust by helping you experience true love, compassion, and forgiveness.

The Throat Chakra or Vishuddha is located at the throat area. The Third Eye Chakra or Ajna goes beyond your physical abilities and focuses on wisdom, intuition and psychic powers. Located between the eyebrows, this energy center helps you access your clairvoyant ability. The Crown Chakra or Sahasrara is the seventh and last of the primary energy centers in your body. Located at the top of your head it represents the center of wisdom, enlightenment and facilitates your connection to the Divine consciousness.

At this point, we go beyond our physical body and talk about the energy centers that live outside this space. Approximately a foot and half below your feet you can find the Earth Star Chakra. If the Root Chakra grounds your physical and mental body, The Earth Star Chakra is responsible for grounding all of your casual, subtle bodies in order to reach your spiritual goals here on earth. You can refresh your soul and spirit by meditating on this chakra.

It also acts as a link between you and the Divine energy. Now it can descend into your body and travel through the other energy centers. We are still at a mystical level where psychic abilities can become present.

These energy centers that are present outside the human body are usually addressed after we have focused enough and even balanced the 7 main chakras. Terrones also said that prolonged imbalance may lead to physical disease and illness, musculoskeletal issues, and mental health challenges like depression or anxiety. According to Malaspina, a great way to promote balance in a chakra is to create alignment in your physical body through:.

Each chakra has yoga poses that may help fine-tune its energy. Here are some poses that may help unblock each of your seven chakras. The root chakra is the base chakra and reflects your foundation. The sacral chakra is associated with our reproductive area and is responsible for our creativity and sensuality. Terrones says poses that strengthen your pelvic floor, where the sacral chakra resides, such as Bridge Pose or deep hip openers like Pigeon Pose or Lizard Pose, are great for strengthening your sacral chakra.

The solar plexus chakra is all about your inner fire and resides around your core. Your heart chakra, according to Terrones, is the integration point between the lower chakras and the higher chakras. To unblock this chakra, she recommends heart openers, such as Camel Pose or Wheel. She also recommends Cow Face Pose and Humble Warrior, which help open your chest, shoulders, and arms so you can more fully embrace others.

The throat chakra is your communication center. According to Terrones, Plow and Fish are great poses to open up your throat chakra. Both help open up the back and front sides of your neck, where the throat chakra resides. The third eye chakra rules your ability to invite a new reality into your life by dreaming up different possibilities.

Terrones recommends poses that involve getting your upper body intimately connected with your lower body. The crown chakra rules your connection to your higher self.

Chakras refer to various energy centers in your body that correspond to specific nerve bundles and internal organs. The seven major chakras run from the base of your spine to the top of your head. If these energy centers get blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms related to a particular chakra. One way you may be able to unblock or rebalance your chakras is by doing certain yoga poses.

Specific breathing exercises and meditation practices may also help. When your throat chakra is blocked or misaligned, you may have issues with creativity and communication.
