How does mag float work

Does anyone have it for their acrylic tanks? I think there are Mag Floats for glass and acrylic but reading the reviews on the petco link, the acrylic ones still scratches. Is this true? The acrylic in the Eclipse tank is very scratch friendly. The acrlyic mag float will still eat it up pretty good since any little piece of sand or detritus will get caught in it. A better method is to do it by hand with a soft cloth, or a felt algae scrapper. Do not expect that tank to stay completely scratch free.

They make the really tiny ones that I'm sure would work. The real problem is, what has already been stated, sand. I have the smallest, acrylic-safe magfloat in my eclipse 12, but it doesn't do a very good job of cleaning the algae. The magnet is not very powerful, so it doesn't scratch the acrylic.

However, the drawback is that is doesn't take care of the algae very well. My tank got scratched up pretty bad because some sand got stuck in the mag float. Sand in the mag cleaner is one of the reasons I'm planning on making my 50G acrylic bare bottom :X. I've also read you just shouldn't leave the cleaner in the tank at all, in case some sort of calcerous life form snatches on to the pad.
