How can you achieve wellness
Recognizing that emotional wellness impacts my world in virtually all areas, I have worked on this area extensively through personal development—and by developing patience and detachment. Harleena, I strive for balance in all areas while accepting that life is a teeter toter so it is not likely one will ever see everything lined up perfectly at one time.
In fact, since we are all growing and evolving, it makes sense that each area would be at different levels at any given time. I felt these dimensions of wellness covered up most of the aspects of wellness, though overall wellness means a lot more than meets the eye.
Yes indeed, physical wellness is a major area that covers up most of the other wellness also and is good for our overall wellness. Emotional wellness is a vast area and covers up many smaller aspects to it, and those who can achieve this are doing wonders for the development of their inner self. Nice to know that you could relate so well to it, and patience and detachment are something that you have learnt along the way.
However, I wonder how does detachment really help? Does it mean to be cut off from people or detaching yourself from worries and other things that may affect you? You are quite right about the need to work on all the areas of wellness, and not just one or two of them. And what matters most is that we keep trying to achieve as many as we can that help us become better and well. Thanks for stopping by and adding more value to the post. The Euripedes quote sums it up. Realize the Power in, and around you, life becomes, well, whatever you decide to make of it.
This is wellness, realizing the omnipresent power we can tap into each moment. Wonderful to have you over! I like your thought about wellness, which is so true- realizing the omnipresent power in each moment….
But yes, not everyone can achieve overall wellness, and it sure needs to be worked on! Your post made me think of the particular types of wellness that I could do some work on. In particular, I could improve on financial wellness and have been looking at how I can really get my coaching practice going as a plan B to my day job.
Ah…playing Sudoko will surely increase your intellectual wellness- guess you should do that often! I somehow never managed to get it right, no matter how many times I tried! Glad the post gave you a reason to think more about the dimensions of wellness. Financial wellness is something that I too am learning, though quite late in life. Guess never really gave it much thought earlier.
When i had my injury I went backwards quickly in both areas and although i started to get fit again I still had a long journey back to wellness. I started getting there then had a fall from my chair and broke my leg which resulted in me being housebound for 2 years.
It was during that 2 years that i started working online to try and better my situation. Fast forward five years and my wellness has improved but my health still needs working on. Must have been rather tough for you to undergo so much of pain and the worst being, when you have no other option than to remain housebound for such a long period of time. Yes indeed, injuries or ailments do leave us rather weak and not in a condition to carry on with any health or fitness activities.
Fitness is mainly a state of mind and if you have the will, you can really work on it! Nice to know that you are already playing basketball, and am sure it must be making you feel so much better. Health and wellness while going well together can also be separate. One may have one and not the other. Yes indeed, health and wellness are often termed or used together, though both have their own aspects and vast meanings, if we look into the finer details of things.
I think wellness is a much broader term and comprises of health and other things, which can be broken down still further into various dimensions. You have done a great job at explaining all those various types of wellnesses and the quotes add more meaning to the article. Very nicely done. I would give a second thought on my intellectual and emotional wellnesses, those are 2 important areas of improvement which I can really see as of now.
Both of them will affect how i lead my life at work and at home and those are what I really care about. Yes indeed, I did try putting up all the various dimensions of wellness, as they do cover up everything.
And quotes are something I feel the post really looks empty without, so make sure to add in a few related to the topic of course! I am sure if you work on the Intellectual and Emotional wellness, you would do wonders in them, if those are the only two requiring attention. Yes indeed, your work and family are both connected with both these aspects of wellness, and would soon be noticed whenever you make the attempts.
I also still trying my best to work in the areas that need attention, though things do take time — but I am in no rush, one thing at a time works best for me! Life throws us curve balls.. I know that so well myself. But, really they are very important. Discontentment with your job can certainly affect your emotional and physical state. A chaotic and disheveled home…the physical, emotional, and spiritual path can be hindered. Intellectual wellness.
Yes, indeed. A stagnant mind can be detrimental to the balance. Step by step…being aware.. Glad you could resonate with the post and liked the various dimensions of wellness. Life presents us with various opportunities, but it also brings forth stress, tensions, disappointments, sadness, anger, frustration, and heartbreak- to name a few. The dimensions of wellness cover up these various aspects and how we can overcome them at least we can try to!
How we deal with our life and react to various situation is what makes us what we are. I liked the way you put up the various examples and linked them up with the the various dimensions of wellness. It is great to see your definitions and understandings of Wellness…I hadnt really thought about all of the different dimensions but the way you write about them i can easily see how each link to each other and are all equally important for us to feel and be well.
Useful post. Like you, most of us never really sit down to think about the various dimensions of wellness, till someone brings it to our notice. I guess we tend to take what life brings forth and try to put those things in line with wellness, which otherwise is a much wider term and covers many aspects.
Nice to see that you could best relate to the Spiritual aspect of wellness, which is so important for all of us. And yes, yoga, meditation, deep breathing are all ways to achieve spiritual as well as physical wellness. The short cuts referred are nothing but a reflection of over confidence. Aptitude What you like and how much?
Knowledge to convert your dream to reality. Skill developed through practice. Or did you mean to say that confidence is the base or root of wellness? Glad you liked the overview of wellness. And thanks for asking me to join your Page- always great to connect. I believe that in order to achieve wellness, we should do the things that we like most because somehow we are not able to do those things, due to hectic lifestyle of ours. I myself, apart from work, love to attend music concerts, and for me its an energy booster.
There are people who are so engaged in work that they do not even give time to their family members, and thus their family life is totally disturbed. So, as we all know that we have to keep working for a lifetime, but there are some things that we should not ignore and we should never ever compromise with health because health matters a lot for every individual.
If we are healthy then we can do work in a better way and of course productivity will be more and more. So guys and gals out there apart from work, do some interesting things also that you really want to do, to make life more exciting and wonderful.
Yes indeed, our hectic lifestyles keeps us away from really doing the things that we would want to otherwise do. I guess we do need to take out some time during the day for ourselves, where we can just do the things we like. This is one way to achieve the dimensions of wellness. Nice to learn that you find physical wellness of importance, as without health you cannot really achieve the other aspects.
But yes, alongside we all do need to work on the other dimensions of wellness so that we are able to achieve them with time. Unless we make that deliberate attempt and effort to change ourselves by changing our lifestyles, things are going to remain tough!
Yes, I think that few people really stop to consider the impact of their mental or emotional state on their bodies. But when a person finally does make that connection, it can be a real eye opener.
Such people are indeed rare, though even if small efforts are made to achieve a few dimensions of wellness, they can gain a lot. I love how you lay out the different kinds of wellness. I had not thought in those terms before — at least not that in depth. This is an important post for those seeking to live a happier, more adjusted life. Knowing the different kinds really helps to focus in on where I personally need to direct extra attention.
Thanks for this. Glad you liked the various dimensions of wellness, which we normally never sit to think of! Children should shoot for 60 minutes per day. A health care provider could help you determine that goal, or calculate your target heart rate here. At a minimum, the United States Preventative Services Task Force USPSTF recommends blood pressure checks, health and cancer screening tests such as cholesterol, pap smears, mammograms, colonoscopies, immunizations including the flu shot and Tdap which protects against the whooping cough , regular dental care every 6 months and eye checks every two years, and screening for any high risk behaviors or chronic health conditions.
This is called primary prevention. Calculate my BMI. Enlist a partner in making healthy changes, or make a commitment with a health care provider, which will give you incentive to continue working on the goal of a healthier lifestyle.
